    It is tantalizing to imagine that warning could be necessary in reality. It brings to mind a solar system full of lost opportunities.

    It is criminal that we have squandered the wealth we in the United States had at our disposal over the past 40+ years on ill-conceived social programs. A relatively modest fraction of those wasted resources would have put us much farther down the road to becoming a space-faring civilization. At a minimum, a permanent outpost on the Moon was well within our grasp, and probably at least the first couple of manned expeditions to Mars.

    While we will never know, it is entirely possible that all the social ills that allegedly stimulated the elephantine growth of government would be largely irrelevant if we had simply let free people be free….
