I’ve never recorded a podcast that begins as badly as the current one with Lars Anderson, author of The First Star: Red Grange and the Barnstorming Tour that Launched the NFL.

Lars kicks off the interview with an anecdote about the University of Michigan losing a football game. Talk about a fumble on the opening drive! Clearly he knows nothing about his host. Still, this start to the Q&A probably should come as no surprise. The Wolverines have performed so poorly over the last two seasons, why shouldn’t they also perform poorly in my podcasts?

Actually, it’s a good interview about a half-forgotten football legend. It’s also my third football-themed podcast. We’ve previously recorded with Mark Bowden and Sal Paolantonio.

Next week’s podcast: Andrew Klavan on his new thriller.
