A number of war veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan are running for Congress this year–and my latest National Review article covers their candidacies.

“We’re taking off our boots and fatigues, putting on our suits and ties, and continuing to serve,” says Allen West, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who was a battalion commander in Iraq and a military trainer in Afghanistan. He’s now running for Congress as a Republican in South Florida. … Hopes for a GOP majority may rest on the shoulders of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who are seeking office in Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, and elsewhere. Call them the Surge Republicans.
