A movie about John Brown and his raid on Harpers Ferry? It might happen, says the New York Times.

The American Film Company recently financed The Conspirator, Robert Redford’s forthcoming movie about Mary Surratt, the only woman to be hanged in connection with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Now it wants to make more movies on stories from American history–and John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry is on the list of potential topics.

I’d love to see that. Specifically, I’d love to see Mel Gibson as the star. Say what you will about Gibson: As an actor, he would bring a perfect blend of mania, violence, idealism, and spirituality to the role. Also, he would grow an awesome beard.
