Welcome to the seventh stop of the book tour.

Or maybe it should have been the first stop. The Zero Milestone marks the point for the measurement of road distances from Washington, D.C. to other locations. It stands about four feet high, just south of the White House. In the first picture below, the Washington Monument is visible in the background.

Inscription above: “THE U.S. COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY DETERMINED THE LATITUDE, LONGITUDE AND ELEVATION OF THE ZERO MILESTONE AUTHORIZED BY ACT OF CONGRESS JUNE 5, 1920 DEDICATED JUNE 4, 1923”
