Today is the 150th anniversary of the “Paul Revere’s Ride,” the poem by Longfellow. My appreciation of it appears in today’s Wall Street Journal.
To read the poem, go here. You may already know the first stanza:
Listen, my children, and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-Five;
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year.
Here’s The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, the 1931 painting by Grant Wood (best known for American Gothic).
