My latest podcast victim is Amanda Foreman, author of A World on Fire: Britain’s Crucial Role in the American Civil War. Trivia fans will be interested to know that this is my first NRO podcast recorded from Hillsdale, Mich. Alas, the sound quality hasn’t improved. It remains, um, acceptable.

Below is an image of Amanda that appeared on the cover of the Sunday Times Magazine when her book came out in the UK. She’s wearing three flags: the Stars and Stripes, the Stars and Bars, and the Union Jack. I’m jealous. When I wrote a book on the history of Franco-American relations, nobody draped me in flags, snapped a photo, and printed it on a magazine cover.

Next week’s podcast: Tim Groseclose on media bias.
