This week’s NRO podcast is with Arthur Herman, whose new book is Freedom’s Forge: How American Business Produced Victory in World War II. Arthur also makes a surprise guest appearance in The Big Scrum. Here’s the first line from the acknowledgments: “My friend Arthur Herman once said that authors write the books they want to read but can’t find.” I think he said it over lunch, many moons ago, though I can’t remember the context. I’ve repeated it a zillion times since then because it’s the best one-line description for how I came to write at least two of my books (Our Oldest Enemy is the other).
Arthur has got to be one of the widest-ranging authors around. His previous books have looked at the Royal Navy, the Scottish Enlightenment, and Sen. Joe McCarthy.
Next week’s podcast: Peter Collier on Jeane Kirkpatrick
