The opening of my article on the Detroit Institute of Arts in the Wall Street Journal this week mentions Diego Rivera’s Detroit Industry Murals. I was able to write it because I’ve had framed pictures of the murals in my home or office for nearly 20 years. I also own a copy of Diego Rivera: The Detroit Industry Murals, an excellent book by Linda Bank Downs. Flipping through it gave me the idea for the lede.
Way back in the last century, I reviewed a couple of books on Rivera, including a different title by Downs.
