I’ve followed the controversy over the anti-Semitic writings of Paul de Man ever since the scandal broke, way back in the 1980s. It was the subject of a term paper I wrote for a literary-theory class. I enjoyed writing the paper because I thought deconstructionism was dumb–the sort of dumb thing that only really smart people could fall for. My latest NRO podcast is with Evelyn Barish, author of The Double Life of Paul de Man.
