The Wall Street Journal runs my review of Why Liberals Win the Culture Wars. I argue that they don’t:

The scholar Herbert Butterfield warned about this trap in his 1931 book, “The Whig Interpretation of History,” which reflected on the tendency “to emphasize certain principles of progress in the past and to produce a story which is the ratification if not the glorification of the present.” This describes Mr. Prothero’s approach, though he writes not from the perspective of British whiggery but rather from the prejudices of 21st-century American progressivism.
